Police Brutality and Racism

Abstract

Slavery and the principle of the other have led to the perpetuation of racism and police brutality directed by the white police on helpless and innocent African Americans. With an overwhelmingly high ratio of innocent blacks slain by the police compared to other races, along with the number of cops acquitted or not even charged for their misdeeds, the matter of police brutality is more serious than one thinks. Another thing that makes it serious is the hatred and suspicion that people feel towards the police. The solution to this is the implementation of the law that strips privileges away from abusive police officers as well as continued demands for transparency. Moreover, there is a need for the unity of the law enforcement agency, the state government, the federal government, and the non-profit organizations to implement the laws and to maintain transparency until such time that the people should trust the police force again.
